Ben Dalton passed away Wednesday morning leaving behind a legacy of community service few can equal. He had a profound effect on the entire Blount County community as a teacher, coach, and school administrator. Benny was one of the finest men I have ever known, and it is an honor to have called him my friend. At one time he held the single game interception record of three against Auburn in the 1960s and was equaled only by Chris White in 1985 to the best of my knowledge. However, Benny's greatest legacy lies in his selflessness, as he served God in the community by helping widows and others in their times of need doing countless jobs in the service of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. In a word, Benny was irreplaceable, and his loss is profound.
