I don't think Tennessee is in any hurry to close the NCAA investigation, and will continue to string it out, and pay the law firm, until they determine how, or if, they will settle with Jeremy Pruitt.
I think having the threat of NCCA sanctions looming is what UT is banking on to help them get out from under Pruitt's contract. Everyone knows this. I guess UT feels that stringing this out, with no end or punishment in sight, gives them some leverage in negotiations.
If they announce a self-imposed, slap-on-the-wrist type punishment, I think it weakens their case.
I don't know if there is some type of statute of limitations or time-frame in which Pruitt is legally bound to sue, or if he has even pursued that yet.
