Also some experts think the virus is mutating and if that is the case, no effective vaccine can be developed and only a heard immunity is effective- one of the potential downsides of social distancing, etc, preventive measures never before taken in all prior epidemics in US.If there is little or no mutation, then the stay-at- home,etc. measures is effective because effective vaccines can be developed.
