My close friend was college roommates with the head of Spyre and just passed on some thoughts after a conversation with him.
—Spyre is one of the top collectives in the country
—but others are rapidly catching up
—that’s the big change that has happened recently, not any intervention from the AD
—NIL got Nico and family attention but they chose UT for the coaches. They love the coaches
—UT AD says the right thing in public but is very supportive of Spyre behind the scenes
—The main issue is $$$. They need more.
—They do wish UT AD was willing to promote them to fans to increase fundraising but UT is also in negotiations with Ncaa and trying to conclude all that pertains to the investigation—so they are cautious
—Because UT was ahead of the game in NIL, some top recruits are definitely using that as leverage to ask schools they prefer to increase their offers. More recently this has worked because as said above, other schools are catching up
—brought up Saban comments and he laughed questioning if people really thought that mattered
—any fan of UT sports should join the volunteer club and contribute. That’s the bottom line. Take your money that is going to the UT AD and give some of it to Spyre. Every bit matters. They will need to pay to ensure guys on current team stay put.
