I know you’ve said in the past, and even to a degree in the war room that you don’t see Tennessee moving on to anyone until they know what Simons is going to do. However last week you also stated you didn’t see Tennessee waiting anywhere near until June to get that decision from Simons, so that’s where my confusion lies.
Simons has stated multiple times recently, and in an ESPN interview last night, that he hopes to attend the NBA Draft workouts and get as much feedback as possible. Wants to see who declares and who stays as obviously that will have an impact on where he’s likely to be projected...the new NBA Draft setup lets that process go much further than previously, in fact the deadline to withdraw is mid-June iirc.
So assuming Simons isn’t lying in these interviews and he truly wants as much information as posssible and as accurate of a grade as possible it would appear that Simons won’t know a whole lot until at least mid-late May and possibly even into June. I know you have stated Tennessee will hold off until they know something with Simons, but that’s my point, Simons himself has made it sound as if he won’t know anything himself until that process happens...so obviously if he doesn’t know then neither will Tennessee.
In a simpler sense, guys like Tyler Harris and Khavon Moore are going to be signing in April, and if they are going to OV it would be before then...obviously it would seem to me Tennessee will not know anything more today on Simon than they will come April, so how does that play out?
IMO you push for Harris right now if this is the case, recruit him hard bring him in for an OV and if he commits then great, take it. Attrition is very likely after the season, late March/early April, and Ira very likely at that stage Simons is still going through the process...so in effect Tennessee would still have room for him if just 1 guy was to choose to transfer, which in today’s game is almost a certainty.
Thoughts @Rob Lewis
