Bowls have been empty often over the last decade as the landscape has changed.

Tennessee playing in Nashville.
South Carolina (vs. North Carolina) in Charlotte
Auburn in Birmingham
LSU in Houston
Florida playing in Tampa (vs. UCF)
MS State in Memphis

Puts SEC on good footing to have full bowls and good financial wins for teams/SEC on the lower half along with big paydays for 2 in playoffs, Ole Miss filling the Sugar and then the Florida bowls pulling people to the state.

SEC office does not care about hotels being full.
In the end, the rich get richer.
