It's my understanding the SEC by laws allow school presidents to vote on changes when needed. Since the cancelled game is east vs. west, seems like the below selection and tie breakers solve it for everyone and is fair across the board.
1. Division Record
2. Head-to-head - 1st tie breaker
3. College Football Playoff Committee ranking - second tie breaker (in the old days, BCS ranking was 2nd or 3rd tie breaker. Can't remember which. Then a coin toss of all things was the last tie breaker!)
Surely the ADs and Presidents will come up with some kind of simple solution like this. Regardless of how necessary it was or wasn't to cancel, there's just no way they allow such a competitive advantage to either team (if AL slips up and loses two, the cancelled game could also help LSU).
