For those are who are quick to jump on an athlete for "quitting" without any information of what the person is going through or any understanding of mental illness, why do some feel it necessary ro brow beat that person. Or for that matter to call a poster names because they do not agree with you.

What if an athlete breaks a leg and drops out. We rally and say good things about them and so sorry that they got injured. But when it comes to mental health so many show little understanding, compassion, or anything else close to empathy.

Gymnasists in particular give up normal childhoods. In this case add in sexual abuse by of all people her team physician. Add in documented what is nothing less than cruel treatment of verbal abuse, diet and training. And add in that unlike running or swimming gymnastics is a dangerous sport.

There is no way we can know what these kids and in this case no a young woman has faced, or is facing. But what is clear is that teammates support her, former Olympians support her, and former teammates support her. But here behind our computers and microphones we can only condemn because we did not get what we wanted. Anyone reading this think they could go through the sacrifices that an Olympian gymnast goes through, even if everything else was perfect?

We may see her as a gymnast but she is a human being with all the frailties we all have. Whether or not she should have known she had mental issues and not participated , none of us know. It is in the nature of world class athletes to give it their all, and that is exactly what she did.

I see references to Christianity on this board all the time. Make a prayer request and bingo, all kinds of immediate posts of support. Well, then look at your self. Should you be judging this young woman who has given so much and carried herself with dignity and grace and has been an excellent representative of the USA. Maybe instead of criticism a partner request would be more important. Look into your own soul before condemnation.

Flame away at me all you want because you did not get what you wanted from sn athlete w you do not know. And from what I said here.
