Appalachian State is a mediocre team and by far not the best team we will be faced with this year. Which I happened to believe wholeheartedly, then it seems to me that the question must be how overrated are the Vols? Again not being negative but trying to be realistic, I saw a defensive line outweighed by an average of 50 pounds a man get continuous pressure, linebackers who shut down the running lanes and defensive backs who look quicker than our skill players.
Their offense was productive but not great. Their running backs seem to be able to gash us for yardage more often than not. Makes me wonder what Chubb and company will do. Their quarterback was utilitarian nothing special and we will face much better in the weeks to come.
So either they are a much better team than we are willing to admit or we are not near as good as advertised. Probably there is truth in both. Induction into the SEC Championship game might not be as near as we thought . I am hoping this game was an anomaly but somehow my gut tells me it wasn't. I think this team has a lot of work to do to realize any goals that it has and what's more it will be like this the rest of the year. Another bumpy year, ups and downs. Nothing dominant about the team I saw last night in Orange. I just hope they improve as the year goes along and stay in the hunt.
