“Time for Day to promote Washington to Co-Defensive coordinator and keep him on staff.

F*ck Tennessee.”

Tennessee has been a dumpster fire for 20 years and will continue to be so.

Toxic fanbase.

Graveyard of coaches.

Heuple will be gone in three years.

Never take a "promotion" that also includes moving from a stable situation into an unstable situation.

Wait for the "promotion" that involves a stable foundation with it.”

“I am not a fan at throwing money at a coach who wants to leave. If Washington wants to leave for a DC job at Tennessee than maybe it is his time to go. He is already more than fairly paid to be a LB coach and I get the feeling he is not quite ready for the job of DC. Part of our lack of ability to make on field changes and even half time changes seemed like our lack of ability to let the playing field know what was happening from above. Coombs, Mattison and Washington all seem like field coaches. We need someone in the box who can call for defensive changes on the run.”

“If he wants to leave...later Tater. Worst backer crew in history although Werner turned out pretty good. Have fun in TN, what a cesspool, they should take back Tommy Rimmerville.”

“ i agree. I'm calling Al's bluff. If he wants to be a part of that mess for a quick pay day then by all means, but it would backfire big time. Tennessee's new coach doesn't do any DC any favors with his style. Heupel is a very bad hire.”

He ain't taking the job over a job at tOSU........and I don't care if they offered him the President's job!

Tenn is a crap program that hasn't done ANYTHING but lose, break the NCAA bylaws/ rules and threatened to get "show cause" penalty!

Washington is smart enough to see that there is NO FUTURE in taking that job and that he likely gets fired in 2-3 years! I'm betting "dollars to doughnuts"

that he stays in CBus for the National Title Run in 2021-2022 as he's got good recruits headed his way........”

“Appears to be going to Tennessee. This is a big-time loss and doesn't look good to lose a coach to the SEC which right now is OSUs biggest enemy. They just play a different ball game down there in regards to recruiting, coaching, and on the field play. Do we really think anybody in the Big Ten could have stolen him away? I highly doubt it.......Day had better make a big-time hire here or there will be a major drop off in recruiting and on the field play. He's already made one questionable promotion so to say I have trust in him to get this right would be a lie”

And THAT there is the key question in all of this. He was solid as a recruiter and had a huge upside HOWEVER he proved ZERO as far as I'm concerned as a LBers coach. He inherited Borland, Werner and Harrison as the LBer trio with Browning rotating in and out after the 2018 season. And that core reamined the starting trio after he took over in his first season. And then beyond into his third here.

So in a best-case scenario, maybe this isn't all that bad of a thing because the only unit he really worked with, is now gone and now a new guy can step in and take the guys remaining here---who've been here for what seems like the past 7 years, to the next level. Because I had numerous questions as to how Borland could continue being a starter here when he was a liability in pass coverage. How they could never really figure out where best to put Browning. Also how they were never able to utilize Werner's athletic ability in full. I have no doubt that if Fickell were still here as LBers coach---and TRUST ME, I had many issues with Fickell as a LBers coach early on here. It took me a while to warm to him as a DE and former co DL coach being a LBers coach. But once he found his niche in developing that walk-out LBer first with Shazier and then with Darron Lee then his start with Harrison, I have no doubt he would've done likewise with Werner who he predicted would be a good one upon his departure from here for the UC job. But from an Xs and Os LBers coach so to speak, I saw nothing from Washington. The reason why Hilliard came on late in the 2020 season is because he already had natural ability. He just needed to be able to remain healthy to show it but that IMHO had little to do with Washington's development of him.

I also firmly believe that Tennessee's decision to pursue Washington was purely so they could try and hold onto Henry Lo To To (I can't recall or spell his exact last name but you get who I'm referring to). In their mind it was a chess move to hold onto one of their very best prospects--esp since Washington was the lead recruiter for him while in the Transfer Portal. so NOW, Day WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO DO ABOUT IT?! Are you going to allow your inner Gene Smith and Tressel to take over where you play coy and say, "Well it happens?" OR, will you DARE to get even with the SEC by stealing one of their best, up and coming and reputable LBers coaches? Because on this one, YOU CANNOT recruit from within as you did last week when you promoted Matty Barnes from Special Teams coach to Safeties/DBs coach. And you can't elevate an another internal hire to his former spot as Special Teams coordinator either. You MUST go for the gusto and hit for the fences on this next one.

You don't pay---you lose! That's the lesson here. If the Buckeyes want to continue to play, compete and win at the national level, they MUST learn how to be underhanded, cunning and just flat out dirty and evil to beat the SEC. It's THAT DAMN SIMPLE!”

“This isn't a big loss at all. Trust me. There's a reason we didn't fight and do all we could to keep him here. If he wants to sell out for the money for 2-3 years then so be it. He won't last long there and it will backfire. Heupel isn't a good coach and his tempo offense and style does zero favors for a DC. Tennessee is going to be hit with sanctions and their recruiting will take years to be what is needs to be.

Let's see what quality control coach Day will promote this time. His continuity plan backfired and now he's forced to actually land a name. He needs an African American with this hire as well.”
