Obviously, the news of the day for the Vols was the commitment of top offensive lineman Trey Smith. The Jackson native created plenty of smiles in the football office and the Big Orange Nation when he put on the Vol hat capping off a marathon recruitment as he has been sought after for years.
The commitment for the Vols was obviously big for plenty of reasons.
For Wednesday all eyes will be on linebacker Shannon Reid. The Fort Myers, Florida prospect is expected to make a decision between Tennessee and LSU Wednesday afternoon. Tennessee head coach Butch Jones was with Reid on Monday. Tuesday evening, everything pointed to the Vols and not the Tigers carrying all the momentum into his Wednesday announcement.
Willie Martinez was in Arizona to see junior college defensive back Keisean Nixon. Nixon is scheduled to be one of three official visitors this weekend. Nixon will be joined by Vol commitment Riley Locklear. Locklear will host Butch Jones and Don Mahoney in his home Wednesday before heading to Knoxville this weekend.
The third visitor expected in is running back Isaiah Miller from Florida. Miller has been committed to Oregon State, but has already taking an official visit to Missouri and will visit Knoxville this weekend. Miller hosted Tennessee coaches in his home earlier this week.
On Friday, wide receiver coach Zach Azzanni will be in Ohio seeing receiver Jaylen Harris, who says he will visit in January. Tennessee assistants Tommy Thigpen and Steve Stripling will be in Charlotte on Thursday seeing defensive lineman Matthew Butler.
