I'll preface my remarks by saying that I appreciate what Hurd has done for the program from getting on board early to playing real hard and giving his all for 2 years and 1 game. But all this stuff about him getting the short end of the stick because of abandoning the I formation is speculation and IMO pretty much BS regardless. I thought we looked really strong in the bowl game last year and that running some I formation made a lot of sense. However the facts are we started out running that formation quite a bit in our first game against what should have been a cup cake team. Hurd's brilliant not to be denied fumble recover saved the game for us. But our offense STUNK in that game against a FAR less talented opponent. There are probably a lot of reasons for that including an OL that didn't perform very well. It could have been partially because of a new LT learning his way and a center that was hurt pretty seriously and the play calling wasn't the best but Hurd other than the fumble recovery did nothing to distinguish himself running the ball. Hard for me to see how the staff could feel very good about the I option after that lack luster performance from both the OL and Hurd. Hurd did not help his argument at all On the other hand Kamara got very few touches early on due to sulking Hurd remaining the featured back. But when Hurd took himself out of that role Kamara immediately set an all time all purpose record against a top 10 team. Meanwhile our third string RB lit it up against Carolina while Hurd too 3 tries from the 2 to get in the end zone and then just quit. Lots of areas deserve some credit in this fiasco but nobody nearly as much as Hurd. He had ALL the opportunity and was ALWAYS the featured back until he just plain quit.
