March Madness Living Up to Its Name
Watching last night's Sweet 16 games, I was reminded of a deep-cut scene from a "Seinfeld" episode titled "The Secret Code." After wiggling out of an awkward dinner with Elaine's eccentric boss, J. Peterman, Jerry is at home eating popcorn on the couch with his feet up. He pumps his fist in satisfaction as the voice on his TV says, "It's fourth and inches, and the Giants are going for it … you gotta love sports!" The thrill of March Madness was on full display as the tournament's top two seeds fell and Duke eked out a win to extend Coach K's career. Here's hoping the rest of the weekend lives up to the high bar set last night.
ESPN Leverages New March Madness Branding to Grow Women's Basketball Audience
Mollie Cahillane, Adweek
For the first time ever, the NCAA Women's Division I Basketball Tournament is able to utilize the March Madness branding this year, a privilege that was previously only reserved for the men's tournament. That gives ESPN and brands a new opportunity to capitalize on the surging interest in women's sports among audiences and advertisers.
