Those saying an older coach (Barnes) won't bring stability and would rather have a younger coach that can stay "longer" need to be reminded or informed of the history of Tennessee Basketball coaches.
Donnie Tyndall - 1 year
Cuonzo Martin - 3 years
Bruce Pearl - 6 years
Buzz Peterson - 4 years
Jerry Green - 4 years
Kevin O'Neill - 3 years
Wade Houston - 5 years
Don Devoe - 11 years (1978-1989)
Ray Mears - 16 years (1962-1978)
In 27 years from 1962-1989, we had two coaches. In the 26 years since then, we've had 7 coaches averaging a tenure of 3.7 years, with Bruce's 6 years being the longest (the last of which he didn't even coach 8 games).
If Barnes gets the job and gives us "just 6-7 years" like some suggest, he would be the longest tenured coach in literally a generation. That's stability for the program. I'll take it and enjoy the ride.
