I have been reading for many days posts that are whining about the lack of recruiting success by this coaching staff. Let's put some things into perspective.

1) Why would recruits choose another school over UT? We have the greatest facilities, we have an all star cast of assistant coaches, we have the greatest fan base, etc.
2) Why is Clemson and Georgia kicking our butts in recruiting?
3) Why would anyone choose to go to Oregon over UT?
4) We should have a Top 5 class every year.

These are things that are posted about to no end on this site. Here is a little information that might make it easier for everyone to understand what our coaches are going up against in recruiting battles.

Top 10 recruiting schools over the past five years:
Alabama-- no losing season since 2006
Ohio State-- one losing season in last 10 years
LSU-- last losing season was in 1999
Georgia-- one losing season since 1999
Florida State-- one losing season since 1999
USC-- one losing season since 2002
Auburn-- one losing season in last 10 years
Clemson-- no losing record since 2010
Texas--has 4 losing seasons in last 10 years
Oklahoma-- no losing record since 1998

Now let's consider these teams winning ten games or more over the past 10 years:
Alabama -- 10 years with 10 or more wins
Ohio State -- 9 years with 10 or more wins
LSU -- 5 years with 10 or more wins
Georgia -- 6 years with 10 or more wins
Florida State -- 6 years with 10 or more wins
USC -- 4 years with 10 or more wins
Auburn -- 3 years with 10 or more wins
Clemson -- 8 years with 10 or more wins
Texas -- 2 years with 10 or more wins
Oklahoma -- 8 years with 10 or more wins

Now let's look at the programs in the SEC with 10 or more wins in the last 10 years:
Alabama -- 10
Georgia -- 6
LSU -- 5
Florida -- 4
Texas A& M -- 1
Mississippi State -- 2
South Carolina -- 2
Kentucky -- 1
Ole Miss -- 4
Missouri -- 3
Arkansas -- 4
Vanderbilt -- 0
Tennessee -- 0

If you add this from a statistics standpoint, we truly have been relegated to the lower half of the SEC when comes to performance in the win/loss columns. Until we change the wins/losses to a positive, we are not going to be able to recruit at a higher level.

The teams that are beating us for players have something to show the recruits. Georgia, Clemson, Florida, Alabama and LSU are the elite teams in the SEC over the past 10 years. Missouri and Ole Miss have been better than us over the past 10 years. When their coaches go into the house and recruit against us they show reasons that they can help their kid get to the next level as a winner. Our coaches are going in with a kiss and promise. That and $5 will get you a cup of coffee at Starbucks.

We need results. With results will come better recruiting classes. With positive improvement, 4 and 5 star athletes will be willing to come to UT. Instead of getting 1 or none 5 star recruits, we will get 2, 3, or 4 each year but we have to be able to show them that we can compete at that high SEC level on the field.

That is why this year is so important to CJP and staff. In 2019, they must show a marked improvement on the field or this rebuild will take another step back instead of forward. I know everyone wants every top recruit to come to UT but understand, these 18, 17 and 16 year old kids were very little when Tennessee was a great football program. What they know about us now is Fulmer the winningest coach was run off after a down year, Kiffen, the Dooley years and now Jones fiasco. CJP and staff are fighting an ugly stain and it is going to take winning 9 or 10 games a year to start to see it removed.
