Obviously a lot of this is speculative (and subjective as I said): who knows how good a player like Venzell Boulware is currently? At this point it's probably easier to imagine what his long-term potential is than what his performance level would be if he got thrown into a game this season. Also, it's important to remember that the rating is relative to a player's position: saying that I think both Josh Dobbs and Von Pearson rate at 84 does not mean that I think it would have roughly the same impact on the team if either player were injured.

Having said that, this has been a fun exercise that I'm guessing could generate some debate. Even if you don't want to debate, do the exercise yourself and see how difficult it is to 1) come up with one number as a comprehensive grade for a player 2) have the values be internally (versus other Vols) and externally (versus all players nationally) consistent and reasonable.

Also remember this is just one (uninformed) man's opinion.

RATING SCALE
95-100 Elite player, most likely the best at their position in the country
86-94 All conference player
76-85 Fringe all conference player
71-75 Good player, but lacking in multiple areas
66-70 Above average, reasonable performer if starter(s) get hurt
61-65 Average, bench depth
50-60 Below average, not likely to see the field
