Any time a major athletic program has big donors involved in athletic department decision making and power struggles, u are going to have a situation like the hiring of a AD.It's not a coincidence that big donors are on bots and athletic committees. It's the price the schools pay when u have multiple million dollar athletic budgets. Not a good thing when u have people outside the college community either making these decisions or basically control the college decision makers.
For example, the hearsay is that Haslam basically made the decision to hire Dooley.disclaimer: don't personally know if this is true.
