At a hotel in Little Rock this weekend and he was in town for Arky's game. Nice guy and we share an affection for whiskey. A few things the GQ might find interesting, nothing groundbreaking...
-I told him UT fans really wished Dan had stuck with UT and most wished Pittman stayed, too. He and Dan really liked UT and he reiterated multiple times it's a great place to attend college, great place to play football. He knew that during recruiting, but said when they came back for Arky game he was reminded of how great the place and the people are.
-Obviously Dan followed Sam Pittman to Arky when Butch got hired. Said Dave Hart called them after Dooley was canned to say Pittman would be retained.
-Not a fan of Butch. Indicated Butch was not exactly....uh, straightforward...with them on in-home.
-Still considered UT after finding out Pittman was leaving.....until Mahoney hired. Not a fan.
-Very complimentary of UT skill players, but not impressed with our line play under Butch.
-Acknowledged Dooley's faults, but like others have said he could be pretty charming/likable when required. He would need great coaches under him b/c he was 100% a CEO-type and not a football mind.
-We watched the last 5 min of UT/UGA game together and he was pulling for UT to lose - but only b/c Arky fans believed that they would get Gameday for Bama game if we lost.
-My impression was that they really wished things had worked out for Dan at UT, but he was wearing head to toe Arky gear.
-Asked about Dan's draft outlook and he said basically, they won't count any chickens before they hatch. I guess he has an older son that was told this and that about baseball draft and couldn't have been more mislead.
-Was upset Arky blew the aTm game last week. Apparently Garrett's injury happened on a cut block by Dan and aTm fans were complaining.....IDK, but if Garrett isn't 100% we have Dan Skipper to thank.
