Tennessee ran the 4th most plays (91), yet had the 76th longest time or possession (26 minutes). That comes out to an average of just over 17 seconds per play (of game clock), which puts us at #1 in the nation out of the 96 FBS teams who have played an FBS opponents this year.
The second fastest SEC team was Ole Miss, who averaged 19 seconds per play (yet ran the ball 20 times fewer than us). After Ole Miss comes Florida who averaged a play every 22.5 seconds. Slowest in the SEC is Georgia at 30.5 seconds per play, damn near double our time per play.
It's crazy to me that we ran the ball 64 times (3rd most out of those 96 teams), yet still had the fastest paced offense in the nation.
In Carvin's interview today, he said the main thing coaches harped on them about was pace of play. He says the coaches want them moving even faster and Carvin knows they can go faster.
While it is still up for debate whether or not we will be any good this year, one thing is certain, we're going to go fast.
