National Rank:
Alabama - #1
Tennessee - #5
SEC Rank:
Alabama - #1 - Will finish here
Tennessee - #2 Will finish here
Thoughts - I think they finish second. Just see USC over taking them. We could finish as high as 3rd but most likely 4th or 5th depending on what Clemson/FSU do.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Rivals 5* Players:
Bama - 4
Tenn - 3
We are trending towards one more. Have no idea about bama.
Rivals 4* Players:
Bama - 14
Tennessee - 14
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Total Players and Avg star rating:
Bama - 3.96 / 23 Total
Tenn - 3.66 / 29 Total
They have the highest avg star rating we are 4th.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Rivals Top 250:
Bama - 16
Tenn - 11
They have a pretty big edge here it seems
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Now just based off of these numbers it seems like Bama has the edge on us. But the base numbers never tell the whole truth.
Greatness and championships which Bama knows all about is won with great lines on both sides of the ball.
Here is the class break downs
Bama:
QB - 1
OL - 5
RB - 2
TE - 1
WR - 1
DL - 5
LB - 3
DB - 5
Tenn:
QB - 3
OL - 5
RB - 2
TE - 1
WR - 1
DL - 6
LB - 3
DB - 4
ATH - 3
K - 3
Now if we just stop here I think the classes are about equal. They have a little more "high end" talent but we have more players who arent scrubs. They all have decent offers from around the country. If you want to side with Bama still having a little better class though I wont argue against it. It would be a valid pick.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Now Im going to breakdown the 3 most important units IMO. QB/OL/DL
Bama:
QB - 1
4* Blake Barnett - #41 overall - #2 Dual Threat QB
Tenn:
QB - 3
4* Sheriron Jones - #10 Dual Threat QB
4* Quinten Dormady - #13 Pro QB - EE
4* Juan Jennings - #13 Dual Threat QB - EE
Bama by all accounts has the best QB of the group(coming out of HS). However we have the numbers. If their guy fails thats it. Their QB class was a major failure. We have 3 QBs and should be able to RS at least 2 of them. Im giving us the slight edge. Also 2 of our guys are EEs
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Bama:
OL - 5
4* Lester Cotton - 6'4" 321
4* Brandon Kennedy - 6'2" 293
4* Richie Petibon - 6'3" 309
4* Dallas Warmack - 6'2" 306
3* Matt Womack - 6'7" 330
Tenn:
OL - 5
4* Jack Jones - 6'4" 300 - EE
4* Venzell Boulware - 6'3" 295
4* Zach Stewart - 6'4" 320
3* Chance Hall - 6'4" 290 - EE
2* Riley Lovingwood - 6'1" 240
Im giving them the edge for now. But we have a potential 3* walk on still deciding and a 5* top 15 national LT deciding. Especially if we land Richmond Im swinging things back in our favor for OL. Once again 2 of ours are EEs.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Bama:
DL - 5
5* DT - Daron Payne - #19 Overall #3 DT
3* DT - Jonathan Taylor
4* DE - Mekhi Brown - #210
4* DE - Anfernee Jennings - #211
3* DE - Christian Bell
Tenn:
DL - 6
5* DT - Kahlil McKenzie - #6 Overall #1 DT (Personally from my orange tinted glasses the best player in the country)
4* DT - Shy Tuttle - #66 Overall # 8 DT - EE
3* DT - Quay Picou
5* DE - Kyle Phillips - #32 Overall # 3 DE - EE
4* DE - Andrew Butcher - #178 Overall - EE
4* DE - Darrell Taylor - #243 Overall
Its not close IMO. We have the better DTs and better DEs. Our DL class is just ridiculous this year and 3 of them were EEs.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Right now if you make me choose Im taking our class and not thinking twice. They have a few higher rated guys and all of their 5* players are HS players. There is basically no difference in the top 5 classes imo. But when it comes to the most important positions I think we are leading the way.
Also I dont know if they have any or how many EEs they have but I doubt it comes close to our EEs and the caliber. Same goes for the other top 5 teams.
These last 2 classes we have brought in(will bring in) are how championships are built.
People are all over Bamas recruiting. But Butch Jones has been right there with Saban.
We did lose a few players from last years class but honestly like always this board over reacted. We still have 25 or so players left from that class and we had a lot of major contributions from players.
Next year we can realistically sign another 4-5 5* players and 10+ 4* players. We wont sign 30+ again but people thinking we sign under 20 just need to get that our of their head. Jones will sign 20+ and get as close to that 25 number as he can. He is still flipping the roster and that includes recruiting over his misses which everyone does. Saban more than anyone.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Just a little way to early sample
2016
Bama:
3 players
2 Rivals Top 250
1 - 5*
1 - 4*
1 - 3*
Tenn:
7 players
4 Rivals Top 250
4 - 4*
3 - 3*
Austin Kendall will be a 5* player next year and one of the best QBs when its all said and done
Same for Nigel Warrior(except as a DB) who I think we land as well.
Other players who are 5* or on the brink who we are in for or already have
Elijah Stove - 4* WR
Devante Brooks - 4* TE
Marquill Osborne - 4* DB
Rahshaun Smith - 5* DE
Dexter Lawrence - 5* DT
And as with Butch Jones they are many others. I fully expect us to compete for another top 5 class next year.
