Making the headline rounds again last week after Elon Musk basically gave the probabilities of 1/billions that we are NOT living in a computer simulation... a lot of people were shocked that a guy at his current level of scientific and innovational success would consider it a forgone conclusion that we are indeed living in a simulated reality. His argument is basically summed up as follows as best I can tell.
Musk states that if you look at where game technology was 40 years ago (basically pong) and where it is today it would be logical to think that a computer simulated reality is achievable in the next 40 years given the pace we have seen so far...
Therefore, if we don’t think that we are currently living in a computer simulation, we are not entitled to believe that we will have descendants who will run lots of such simulations of their forebears.
