I will always believe Butch Jones and Co. did not help this situation. It isn't on "all of them" or anything like that I will say. Jalen obviously make the ultimate decision and left the team so he bears responsibility as well.
Thoughts;
1. You mold your system to your player's abilities.
- They did not do that with Jalen for 2 seasons. He was our only back his freshman year so I give them a break there. However, we've have Kamara for two seasons now. He showed up ready to roll on day 1 last year. They are guilty with the same decisions involving Karmara, our best offensive player which is further affirmation this staff is in over their heads.
- "This board complained all year about "why aren't we seeing Kamara get more touches, etc." It's the same damn reason Jalen got fed up and ultimately left...our coaching staff was either too stubborn or stupid to realize we had two offensive threats that would have elevated the team immensely if they played where they were born to play in the system they were put into! Hurd would HAVE KILLED IT AS A TE IN THIS SYSTEM.
It ultimately took an injury/suspension to Jalen to force the coaching staff to give Kamara the touches he deserved at the position he was best suited for. That is straight up coaching malpractice. To top it all off, they reverted back to their old ways when Jalen did return. IT MAKES ZERO SENSE AND POINTS TO THEIR INCOMPETENCE.
