Feel terribly for Tyndall. He did make his bed, but how heartbreaking for a former friend/protégé to drive the knife in the back. Tennessee did have to move on, to remove the NCAA cloud and give its basketball program a true chance to return to national relevance. A chance for a true fresh start for the basketball program. An important hire for Tennessee, and there are several great young coaches out there who would come for the right price.
Miller, while unrealistic, would be the home run. Hurley, Underwood or Prohm would be very promising. Even Will Wade would have a chance to be a very good recruiter and coach. The opportunity to build something is there. It will take the right coach to see that and work toward it.
Tyndall's team was maddening at times, but it left us with some great memories. Two wins over Vanderbilt, including the SECT game that ended their late run toward the bubble. Wins over Butler, Arkansas and Kansas State at home. They fought to the end. Tyndall and his staff were good guys. They interacted well with the community and could laugh at themselves. The move was needed and warranted, but that does not change my sadness for Donnie T on a personal level. Worked very hard to get his break, then gets punched in the gut. Hope in can hang in there and get back one day.
