Let me start by saying, I like David. He would probably do well here, but like most on this board I'm not qualified to make that call.
IMO, fear motivates his popularity more than anything. Fear that he might be good and we miss the chance to have him here. Fear that maybe he even ends up somewhere else in the SEC eventually.
If you take away the fact he is a TN guy, this fanbase would be killing the University for even talking to the guy. His resume is, on paper, very underwhelming.
But, because he is draped in Orange, we are all willing to gamble.
