After going through a handful of post it's clear that there is still a segment of our fan base that's very fragile and I understand why. Being as close to getting back on top as we currently are can make some indivisuals feel extremely anxious due to a fear that we are being set up for disappointment but don't let today cause you to doubt where we are headed. Nothing that's happened today should be much of a surprise when you really sit and think about it. This program was at an all time low and I don't think anybody really understood how bad it was until things began to turn around under Butch. When a rebuild is moving at the astronomical pace that this one currently is there will be a large amount of attrition due to the fact that we are increasing our caliber of potential signees very quickly which causes two things to occur. The first is that there are so many guys playing huge roles as true freshmen which causes any freshman that doesn't have the same early success to immediately doubt that they will ever be able to crack the starting line up. The other result is that the guys that don't have success in year one or two start to see the caliber of prospects coming in after them is getting better and better which also causes a feeling that they will be on the bench for four years. Also the size of Butch's first full class was always going to lend itself to attrition especially because there was so many holes to fill that it led the staff to reach for some guys that maybe weren't who they really wanted but they had to increase our depth no matter what. The last thing I'll say is that it will still be a couple of years before Butch can change this mentality in the program because we are going to be forced to play a large number of first year players for at least one more season but once we are sending out mainly 3,4,5 year guys on the field then it will make 1st and 2nd year guys not get so bent out of shape when they are RSing or only playing STs. This is just another step in changing our culture from a losing one to a winner.
