Happy Sunday. Hope all is well.

Just got done rewatching Tennessee handle South Alabama the way that it should wanted to share my notes takeaways as I do every week.

Let's start with Hooker's super-efficient night leading the way...

Hendon Hooker Passing Chart
Left 20+: 1/2, 41 yards, DPIMiddle 20+: N/ARight 20+: 1/1, 43 yards
Left 10-19: 1/1, 21 yardsMiddle 10-19: 1/1, 14 yardsRight 10-19: 3/3, 64 yards, 2 TD
Left 0-9: 2/3, 21 yardsMiddle 0-9: 1/1, 8 yardsRight 0-9: 3/3, 19 yards
Left BLOS: 1/2, 14 yardsMiddle BLOS: N/ARight BLOS: 3/3, 25 yards

- South Alabama brought essentially four all night long and Hooker continually picked it to pieces. The Jags brought a four-man rush 64% of the time and all Hooker did was complete 14 of his 15 passes for 227 yards and a touchdown. Hooker's second touchdown pass came against a 5-man rush, which USA only brought 4 times against Hooker. They brought 6 once and it was when Milton was in the game.

- Hooker didn't attempt a pass under pressure, but was sacked twice. And one was on the Hail Mary attempt at the end of the half. It was against a 5-man rush and he just didn't have enough time to launch it to the end zone. His other sack was essentially in garbage time when he tried to take off in scramble against a 4-man rush.

- Hooker on third down: 3-of-3 for 41 yards and picked up a first down each time.

- Tennessee dominated on the ground. I considered 80% of Tennessee's runs successful. Hooker, Jabari Small, Jaylen Wright and Len'Neth Whitehead all looked good carrying the ball. Hooker forced 5 missed tackles, Wright forced 4 and Small forced 2. Offensive line deserves as much credit. They opened up some big holes.

Here's how Tennessee's defense performed against USA QB Desmond Trotter...

Desmond Trotter Passing Chart
Left 20+: 3/4, 92 yardsMiddle 20+: N/ARight 20+: N/A
Left 10-19: 0/1Middle 10-19: N/ARight 10-19: 1/3, 13 yards
Left 0/9: 3/6, 82 yards, 2 TDMiddle 0-9: 1/3, 5 yardsRight 0-9: 2/4, 20 yards
Left BLOS: 4/5, 6 yardsMiddle BLOS: 1/1, -2 yardsRight BLOS: 4/5, 1 yard

- Trotter against pressure: 0-of-6 passing and was sacked 4 times. Vols did a great job of generating pressure all night long.

- Trotter on third down: Was 5-of-9 for 18 yards and a touchdown, but only picked up a first down on 2 of the 9 third downs he threw on.

... Trotter was WAY more successful throwing on fourth down, however.... completing 3 of 4 passes for 94 yards and a touchdown. Picked up a first down on three of the four fourth downs he threw on.

- In terms of pressure Tim Banks brought... Vols brought a four-man rush 58% of the time and a 5-man rush 28% of the time. Against a 4-man rush, Trotter didn't have much success, completing 8 of his 18 attempts for 50 yards and was sacked 3 times.

... Trotter had far more success against a 5-man rush, however... Was 8-of-10 passing for 145 yards and a touchdown. Banks brought a 6-man rush 4 times and it resulted in a Trevon Flowers sack, but Trotter was also 2-for-3 for 16 yards and a touchdown.

- Banks brought 3 just once. Trotter completed the pass for 5 yards

- Against the run, I only tallied 4 missed tackles. 2 from Byron Young in the backfield, 1 from Aaron Beasley and 1 from Warren Burrell. I only considered South Alabama to be successful on 44% of its runs.
