After reading the PerkisSystem thread about being at practice, I got to thinking about different coaching styles. It sounds like CZA takes more of an old school hard line approach. Many, probably most, football coaches most likely use the same style. Not all. Some contrarians that come to mind are Tony Dungy, Tom Osborne, and from what has been written, Bob Shoop. I think today's generation of football players are less likely to accept the old hard line approach. Some but not all probably don't take to it at all. When I saw how Sutton had to console PW, it made me wonder if CZA is using the best approach with his players.
This is probably going to get me flamed on but here goes. First let me say that I am a huge Butch Jones fan. The job he has done in getting us where we are today is nothing short of incredible. The one thing that sometimes make me shake my head is the bull horn. It almost seems like he is putting the spotlight on himself rather than the team. Could opposing coaches use it against us in recruiting? It would seem very easy to produce a short video of a "bull horn" practice and show it to some potential recruits and ask the question, " do you want to play 3-5 years in this atmoshere?". I think there are a fair number of good football players that aren't alpha dog types. If I recall, Daniel Helm left for something like this. Like I said this isn't going to be a popular take, so flame away.
One final thought. PerkisSystem is apparently well connected in the football program. It would seem that bringing his information to a chat board could potentially jeopardize his access. Not that it is any of my business. Just kinda thinking.
OK set me straight. Where did I go wrong?
