i was Asst. G. M. Of the Knoxville Blue Jays/Smokies from 1988/94. Chris Weinke came thru our organization (Toronto Blue Jays Class AA) in about 1990 I believe after spurning an opportunity to play college football at Minnnesota among others. We spoke several times (and I had the pleasure of running a few routes for him as we tossed football) about how he wished he had taken that scholarship and played college football. Well we all know how that turned out as "Weink's" baseball career fizzled at the AAA level, he went back to college at Florida State and ended up winning the Heisman Trophy for his efforts. Would have been the QB for the Noles in the Championship game versus Tennessee in '98 but was injured. Cool dude glad it worked out for him would be ironic if he ended back here coaching QBs for Tennessee. Coming full circle. He was a very good first baseman and might have made the big leagues but he decided to give football a try.
