Vol fans,
I know this is a Tennessee board, but the city of Memphis is buzzing today about the imminent ousting of Tubby Smith at Memphis. Basically it has gotten to the point where people at the University of Memphis have told local reporters like Geoff Calkins and Gary Parrish that Tubby is out. He’ll walk away with close to 10 million dollars, so I don’t feel that bad for him. He’s a good man, and a good coach, but he didn’t realize what he was getting himself into when he took the Memphis basketball job.
Penny Hardaway is probably Memphis’ most notable basketball alum, and he’s a local. He’s been dominating the Class AAA classification in Tennessee. He’ll kill it in recruiting, and people will say he’s never coached in college. The rumor is that he would bring in Larry Brown as a assistant.
I hope Memphis and Tennessee still play next year, and I feel like Penny will want to play UT. We’ve seen how great that rivalry can be. It will be interesting to see how it all plays out.
