I often see post mentioning VFL Greg Amsler's play at UT and wondering where he is now. Since good news has been a little slow the last couple of days I thought this a good time. In the late 1990's through early 2000's Greg was one of my assistants. Of course we talked a lot about UT football. Greg got out of the business I was in somewhere around 2005 and I lost track. I had not talked to him in over 15 years so I looked him up online. I few days ago I talked to Greg. He was flattered people still mention him. We talked for 40 minutes. Greg owns company called IMC. They do internet marketing consulting (https://theimccompany.com/). He is located in Pacific Grove, California but much of his work is zoom back to the east coast.
Greg has seen VFL Tony Thompson recently. Tony lives in southern California and sells flooring. He has 2 daughters in their 20's who both got college track scholarships. Tony has a a son who is a junior running back in high school and Greg thinks he is the real deal. Greg has a 12 year old daughter. He has also seen Alvin Harper recently. Alvin is now a teaching golf pro. Greg said he told Alvin "how could he do that as he could not even hit the ball when in college!" The most recent UT game Greg has attended at when we played Cal out there in 2007. He went down by the fence at field level. Roger Frazier saw him and gave Greg his badge. Greg spent the whole game on the sidelines.
I don't want to take the time today to put them together but from time to time the next couple of weeks I will post a few short stories either Greg told me or we experienced together. One thing he asked me about was if I still had the tapes about the prank phone calls (Eddie's Auto, C&C Junk Yard & the Thom McCann's Shoe Store). He got a big kick out of them while at UT and after.
