If any word describes the current landscape of college football, it's parity. Shocking upsets happen every year. I remember in 2007 when USC was #1 and a 41 point favorite over Stanford. They lost that game, but ended the season 11-2 and won the Rose Bowl ranked in the top 3. There are countless other examples of inferior teams rising up and taking teams to the brink. The 2002 Ohio State Illinois game comes to mind (won 23-16 in OT by eventual national champion Ohio State).
No doubt, TN was taken to the brink by an inferior team on Thursday, but they won the game and all their goals for the season are still intact. Too many people are overreacting to 1 week of games. Let it play out. I guarantee, no one in the TN locker room thinks they can just show up and win now....and to me, that's a good thing. This team got a nice wakeup call, one that I think they needed, and fortunately the wakeup call came in a win.
Go Vols!
