Used 20ga 8 shot for SoTex Wild Quail

yesterday. I have NEVER had 80% of the birds give me the finger like that. I have always used 6 shot because we had chukar and pheasant thrown in. I usually down them in 50% bad day and 60 good day.
I took the 8 shot because I had it. Bad idea? Any of y'all tried 8 on wild quail?
I have never felt so inadequate.
