With the success (or lack there of) of the baseball team in the last 10 years, it is pretty fitting that both of the players that have a shot to play in the World Series didn't finish their careers at UT:
Yan Gomes was told by Raleigh that he would never play over Blake Forsythe so he transferred to a school back home after earning All-American honors as a Freshman and second team SEC honors as a Sophomore. Gomes went on to win a Silver Slugger with the Indians and Forsythe sputtered in the minors and was the GA for the current team last year. Genius decision by CTR...

Andrew Toles was a 4th round pick out of HS who still went on to attend UT and was named to the SEC All-freshman team but was dismissed his sophomore year due to a violation of team rules. No fault to Serrano here as Toles likely deserved it. He has come through with some clutch hits in this series for the Dodgers.

Alex Suarez was the first baseman on the 2005 College World Series team. Suarez is now serving in the front office for the Cubs as Asst Director of Player Development/International Scouting.

With Hochevar representing the team the past 2 years, this will mark the 3rd straight year the Vols will be represented in the WS.
