Here's the latest news and notes from Austin and Jesse...
Lets start with Jeremy Pruitt and his travel on Wednesday. The head football coach was with Jacob Copeland for most of the day. Tennessee hasn’t gone quietly for Copeland, who appeared booked for either Alabama or Florida in recent weeks. The 4-star wideout visits the Gators this weekend, but as one person told us on Wednesday night, “Nobody knows what he is going to do and that includes him.” Mainly, that's because Copeland loves to be recruited. Tennessee threw the kitchen sink at him Wednesday night, with nearly the entire offensive staff in attendance. Time will soon tell if it was enough since UF gets the final face time, but the Vols remain very much in the mix due to Copeland's long-standing relationship with Pruitt — dating back to 9th grade.
Meanwhile, Tennessee also saw 5-star defensive back Tyson Campbell on Wednesday, as he hosted Charles Kelly, Chris Rumph and Terry Fair at American Heritage. Kelly has strong ties in that school and Fair actually played in the NFL with one of their staff members. Campbell clearly had a great time during last weekend's visit with the Vols and likes the vibe with Tennessee. The staff has worked his parents well and gotten to the finish line having entered the race late. Miami will host him this weekend and went in home after Tennessee on Wednesday night. Information is all over the map with Campbell right now. Several schools, including Tennessee, have subdued optimism, as everyone has received positive feedback but no one really knows where he'll end up.
Staying in the secondary, Taiyon Palmer left Knoxville after what was said to be a positive weekend, but North Carolina State has seemingly shifted all of the momentum toward Raleigh. The Vols are continuing to swing there, but that one looks like an uphill battle right now. That makes this weekends visit with Isaac Taylor-Stuart all the more important. His entire family is slated to make the trip with him, as the Vols will roll out the orange carpet.
The Vols continue to trend for tight end Glen Beal. One team that won’t go away is Ole Miss. Beal visited Oxford a few weeks back and the Rebels remain persistent in their pursuit.
Finally, tomorrow is arguably Pruitt's biggest in-home visit since taking the UT job. He'll spend a long time with Quay Walker in South Georgia, and he'll be joined by Kevin Sherrer, Charles Kelly and Chris Rumph. Walker remains an Alabama commit, but no one we've talked to believes he's even a realistic target for the Tide anymore. They offered a new LB on Tuesday, too. Auburn had the most recent visit, but this has shaped up to be a UT-UGA battle. Georgia is scheduled to host Walker as its sole official visitor this weekend, but Tennessee has the momentum heading into the visit — and Pruitt could build on that with a key in-home tomorrow.
