We only scored 14 against Florida but moved the ball well and left points on the field. We went bonkers against Missouri and South Carolina in the first half. I felt we could have easily scored 70+ on both had we kept pouring it on, but Heupel did the right thing in the second half of both games to help save gas in the tank for upcoming games.
In my opinion, he has exceeded my expectations so far. I expected big numbers against Bowling Green and Tennessee Tech but far less against Florida, Pittsburgh, Missouri, and even South Carolina. I thought he would get us there with these caliber teams, but it would be a year or 2 down the road when our offense was deeper and more talented, especially the line.
I love the job he’s done with Hooker. He’s going to develop that youngster into an NFL draft pick, and I’m so excited and happy for him. He seems like a good kid who deserves it. Quarterback development is something we haven’t seen around here since David Cutcliffe. I believe Heupel has the edge even over him in that department.
I give Heupel these grades so far…
playcalling/scheme: A
QB development: A+
