TN had beaten either USCe or Vandy, winning the East. However, with the descimated defensive front, Bama would have named the score in the title game. At 9-4, still would have probably gotten to the Sugar Bowl, where OU would have scored a bunch on us. We would have had to win a shootout. Probably would have lost that one too, leaving us 9-5, a worse record than we ended with actually.
I guess my guestion boils down to would the East division championship give us more momentum even with being beaten (probably handily) twice on a big stage? Or does winning your bowl game give you more momentum? Personally, I am not sure
