That's the question I'm asking myself while driving around today, so I'll open it up to discussion outside of the voices in my head.
The criteria I am using is for elite is all-sec type player in 2017. I'm also not giving guys the nod based on potential. Darrell Taylor typed that haven't shown it on the field, I'm hopeful that some of them can step up and be elite but I think it is a misstep in "expect" it. For me to expect them to be elite they've got to have the physical ability as well as shown the production on the field. No practice potential in my considerations.
Here's who I have:
- DK Jr. - he was dinged up end of last year, otherwise he is a top tier SEC linebacker.
- Tuttle (dependant on recovery) in each season before he got hurt he showed he had it. Extrapolate that to a full season and he is elite. Will mention KMac here too and I think the combination of those two is greater than the sum of the parts, that's a dominant interior pair playing together.
- JJ - he's at the very least an elite level bad ass and may be an elite WR too.
-Evan Berry - how's his rehab coming? He is without a doubt an elite return guy.
All of those guys are capable of taking over games against anyone.
Honorable mention: John Kelly - I'm really excited about him and think he will do great in our offense. But elite running backs in the SEC are in the Heisman conversation and are first round draft picks. Don't think Kelly will be on that level but I am pretty comfortable expecting 1000 yards from him.
Lots of guys need to step up, but these are the ones in my opinion that have already arrived and as long as they are healthy can be counted on to win their match ups and make game winning plays.
Any others y'all want to make a case for?
