Why do some people get so emotional / persnickety about sports announcers?

One of the more unseemly aspects of the General's Quarters is the unrelenting attacks on Bob Kessling who, IMHO, is not that bad. He's not John Ward but that's like asking Saban's successor to be another Nick Saban. Not everyone can be a generational talent.

With that being said, I read an article about Chris Collinsworth getting assigned to an extension at NBC and was reading the comments which included all sorts of unnecessary vitriol and invective. I know the "here's a guy" memes are numerous for Collinsworth.

Then don't even start me on Joe Buck.

I don't think I pay that much attention to announcers. You have your John Wards, Gus Johnsons, and Tony Romos that stand out in a crowd but why is it a topic of such emotion to some people? Is it just an opportunity to complain? Too much time on your hands?

I'll hang up and listen.
