Don't be scared of the read. It should interest you while you take that mid-day... well you know what I mean.
Jim Harbaugh is Donald Trump. A successful nuisance to college football (or politics), while being the the most polarizing and captivating figure, respectively, in their sport. They are not always liked by the masses or even their colleagues, but proof is in the pudding that, we, as professional opinionaters, love to watch and read about these knuckleheads. Why? Now, each sport is in need of a villain. A Villain is someone who questions the establishment, right or wrong, while being so damn good at their job you love to hate them. A villain is that guy that does what some people want to do or say what our colleagues are thinking, while again, being VERY successful. The success part of being the villain is the most important, IMO. (And for the record, if I use the general term "HE or HIM or HIS" please understand context clues and it could apply to women. But for the sake of an easier read, PC people, just roll with it. Thx)
The good guys like Mike Trout, Phil Michelson, or Kevin Durant do not drive ratings. They do not create a buzz, as they are the social norm. They are who the public needs as a "control" or "common denominator" to base off who we want to like and who we want to hate. This is because most of us are level headed in our workforce, social groups or at the grocery store and being mildly successful, therefore we can relate easier to the "control" athlete Whereas, you insert a Tiger Woods, Bryce Harper or Jim Harbaugh-esque figures in our lives, life becomes CRAZY. And Fun.
I do not need to discuss in detail the track record for DT, yet we know he is a larger-than-life figure that should go down in the history as one of the most interesting, polarizing men, ever. It is fascinating really and probably makes some of the general public a bit envious of the things he can say and get away with. His antics and strategy are the blue print for Harbaugh. Jimmy H has always gone against the grain, while being incredibly successful everywhere he has gone. He was a son of a college football coach who coached at Michigan and Stanford, while other family members being in the business too. Fredrick Christ Trump, father of Donald John Trump, self made real estate guru, who set Donald up for success (for failure). Both had a major head start in their respective fields, while having the ability to attend universities that are the creme de la creme of football and business. U of M & U Penn. Starting to see some similarities?
Both being "self-made", and that I mean, they both took their silver spoon and turned it into an antique 24K gold, Victorian style, one of a kind spork, feeding their world with this one utensil, and we cannot stop eating from it. Look at the Ratings, numbers don't lie, people! Anyways, lets fast forward to today. Both men are at the top of their fields, JH is a top of the recruiting world looking as if a dynasty might start at Uof M, and DT is the presumptive GOP candidate for the 2016 election, with a helluva chance in becoming the 45th president of The United States of America. They both have challenged their establishment. JH is going after Saban and the NCAA for their uses of Satellite camps 9one example), while DT is having his way with the Bush's and the RNC. JH says and tweets what he wants, when he wants (even at our beloved BJ). Same for DT (minus an attack on BJ). They both belittle the media, while depending on them greatly for their retweets, blog posts, and GQ rival posts. We, as the social media-sphere, cannot get enough of these two, while in our heads saying "I've had it up to here" hearing about this fool. Once we see something on twitter or on Fox, we text our friends and say "can you believe this idiot?" or yell "Cooter, hurry back in here, The Donald is speakin' bout dem walls again."
As my first post, and possibly my last post in here, embrace this entertainment. It is EXCELLENT for TV, it is good (and bad) for CFB, and it is good (and bad) for politics. (the good and bad of DT politics is something I will not debate politics with all the bright political minds in GQ. You all are right and I know nothing.)
Last but not least, I do wish Butch would do something to shake up the current flow, on and off the field. Now, he will need to start winning the big games to create the buzz off the field, But this year is the year. I will even say, and it pains me even typing this, an 11-2 season with 2 of those losses coming by ways of Bama, will be a massively successful season. "I don't care what you think there, Cooter, it show will be a helluva ride winning 11 games again."
Signing off,
