Just rewatched the UGAy game. D@mn! We were lucky to win.
I know they had the fluke fumble TD and the punt return flag that was picked up, but we kicked @$$, took the lead, and had all the mo. Yet, we were fortunate to hang on and win. They dropped a game tying score with 4 minutes left and then, after we punted them deep at their 1, allowed them to move it out 70+ yards and have a chance to tie it with 6 seconds left.
Call me a glass half empty guy, but you can't deny that our D last year blew a lot of opportunities (OU FL) and nearly a couple of others (GA SC).
So, let's analyze why we'll be better:
1) Shoop- his record speaks for itself.
2) More depth- less rep's for our stars means better Q4 play.
3) Talent over experience- Kongbo and Gaulden.
4) 8 starters back.
5) Our O should be very good, allowing more D rest and bigger leads to hold.
6) A lot of guys played hurt- Barnett, Martin, etc.
7) What did I miss?
Things to worry about:
1) Will they be fully recovered from injury- Tuttle and JRM?
2) Counting on kids we haven't seen yet- Kongbo, Gaulden, Osborne, etc.
3) Two new starters at Safety.
4) Big drop off in talent if either starting LB gets hurt.
5) Foreman- played better in 2nd half, but against weaker competition.
6) Can they close? They didn't last year.
7) What did I miss?
It's late July. Recruiting is going great. No trouble (keep your fingers crossed). Title IX in rear view mirror. Lots of positives, and only the upcoming season to cuss and discuss. Let's keep it civil and have a good thread.
GBO!!!!
