I love Tennessee football. I was raised on it. I don't know if there are a lot of things better than the feeling on a Saturday morning on gameday. That having been said, I could not do what the VQ staff does. I am very appreciative of all this staff does, but I don't think I could do it:
First of all, the board (GQ). It is possibly the heart of VQ, but I sometimes feel that it must be somewhere between being a remedial school Principal and managing a daycare of 1,000 young children with ADHD to have to manage the board. 24 hours of constant monitoring and almost no "thank you(s)".
Secondly, I am sure most of the High School athletes are great, but managing 15-18 year old egos and their parents must be challenging at times.
Lastly, having to be ready for a breaking story at ANY TIME. 3:00 AM, rumors of UT players arrested on the strip. 3:01 AM on the GQ - "BRAJP - What the heck is going on? Why aren't you all over this story? I pay good money......."
Don't get me wrong, the rewards of being close to the program and seeing these young men grow and mature would be a great part of the job.
So, my question for the board, would you do this job if you had the chance?
