As a teenager in the 80’s it was always recommended to change your oil every 5k miles. Then these quick change oil places started popping up and told people “protect your engine and change oil every 3k miles”. Had a co-worker in early 90’s that told me he only changed his every 15k had a Chevy S-10 with over 200,000 on it. I worked at Avis rent a car in college and we were lucky to get out cars changed every 12-15k. The garage manager at National Car rental was super lazy and had a lot of theirs go over 20k. One of their cars blew and engine at 40k and NEVER had an oil change. These new pure synthetic oils clearly state on the bottle “good for 10,000 miles”. Would be good to conserve oil again and educate that you don’t have to change every 3k miles.
