Big game in Tennessee winning the SEC in 1982. LSU gets an early 10 point lead and in the pre-shot clock days, Brown appears to show off his tactical genius by going into the spread which kills LSU's momentum and lets the Vols back into the game. At the end of the game LSU leads by one and after a timeout, the Vols inbound under their basket with less than 10 seconds left. Michael Brooks gets the inbound and on the edge of the TV picture you see Dale Brown going wild at the ref and the LSU timekeeper because the clock wasn't started quick enough to his liking. Apparantly the brillant trapping defense Brown had LSU in was not designed for that extra split second because Steve Ray had a wide open jumper at the key as the clock was running out. He missed but Brown's defense allowed Dan Federman to be all by himself under the basket to tip in the game winner as the horn sounded. DeVoe got his team off the court and they got out of the locker room and out of town at once. On his call in zhow Monday, Brown was still waxing verbose about the "commissioners" meeting and overturning the result but there was no joy in Mudville.
