Was at the game today and impressed by the turnout of Vol fans. Nobody can say Tennessee fans don't care about basketball. Hope we continue to play a "home" game in Nashville against a quality opponent. The arena is top notch and it's an easy trip for us west Tennessee Vol fans.
Some on this site have been critical of Rick Barnes and his recruiting. And while admittedly it's been somewhat disappointing no one can deny that Barnes is a good talent evaluator. While not highly ranked for the most part, there is quite a bit of young talent on this team. They are just very inexperienced and obviously need to develop consistency.
While obviously shaky to this point, guard play will be a strength of this team by the end of the season and moving forward. Lamonte Turner has a chance to be a star in the SEC. Jordan Bone's injury has been a blow. Grant Williams is a hard-nosed player with talent despite being undersized. Losing Fulkerson is huge blow. We need someone to step up in the low post - namely Alexander. Lew Evans is awful and should only be used in an emergency situation (i.e. the loss of Fulkerson). Not sure how the dude got a D-I scholarship. The best that can be said is he's a warm body that is only here for one year.
This is a much more athletic team than last year and one that has proven it can shoot the hall despite what we saw today. If we can mature and grow, this bunch could surprise in an extremely weak SEC. Outside of Kentucky, who really scares anybody in this league?
