In 1976-1977, (forty years ago) the team won the SEC Crown going 16-2 and sweeping Kentucky. They had on that team:
1) Bernard King, 2) Ernie Grunfield, 3) Reggie Jackson, 4) Reggie Johnson, and 5) Johnny Darden.
King and Grunfield were co-SEC players of the year , Jackson averaged 15.4 points/game, Johnson ranks 5th on the all time UT scoring list with 2103 points. Darden still remains the career assist leader at UT. The most amazing stat to me is that King averaged 26 points / game as a freshman!
But I have to say that the 1966-1967, (fifty years ago) was great also. They won the SEC crown with the likes of 1) Ron Widby, 2) Tom Hendrix, 3)Tom Boerwinkle, 4) Bill Justus, and 5) Billy Hann, all great players!
