I don't what the village idiots were listening to, when they moan and groan about a guy who lost more football knowledge in his morning constitutional than they have known their entire lives.

Here is this morning's (6.30.2019) Big Orange Sunday with Doug Mathews.

Mathews explained why and what he does with this show. Doug explains that he is not a reporter, does not break news, and does not use his show too get anyone fired. Doug has access to coaching staff and administration at UT. e ties both together to use information to better discuss the UT athletic department sports on air. Doug is a big fan of UT and he is the only show that uses the UT protected slogan, "Big Orange" in his radio show. Doug discussed his friendship with Fulmer- they are best of friends. Big Orange Sunday is always going to be about promoting UT sports. Doug said that he wis going to support the coaches at UT and he wants to talk about mostly the positives and tires to not focus on negative.

Fall camp is a month away. It is final preparation time. Mathews believes that we are on the path to competing for championships again.

Pruitt is not building a season, rather he is building a program.
It is too easy to look year-to-year. Rather Pruitt is recruiting a certain type of player, keep in mind the schemes you are running and recruiting players that fit mentally and physically to those schemes. The hires of Chaney and Ainsley to their Coordinator roles are commitments to a scheme, style of play, and add to it, the hire of Tee Martin, a commitment to recruiting success. Building a program is Pruitt's biggest focus. Building a program takes care of year to year success.

Pruitt was one of 3 coaches that Fulmer narrowed his search to and was blown away by Pruitt's presentation and preparation. Fulmer is passionate about Pruitt and is going to stand behind him.

Recruiting - Pruitt knows how to recruit and this staff is a very good group of rSEC experienced recruiters. We will sign several in-state kids because of the talent is very good , especially in the trenches. Fans should not worry about recruiting. Pruitt knows what he is looking for and his team of recruiters have proven that they can cary out and close on SEC caliber recruits. Star gazers…Doug stated that stars are not so important.

Transfers - Nobody knows how the NCAA will rule on Solomon and Gibbs. Power 5 Commissioners run college football. Big Ten and ACC commissioners run college football. Worst thing to come out of this, is that they are not eligible and have to sit out for a season. The best thing would be if both were ruled eligible.

Scheduling - Fulmer said in an interview last week that Memphis is an important part of the state and that we'd need to play in Memphis, but that he would need to discuss this with Pruitt first. Mathews said that we are not likely going to play Memphis due to the limited non-conference games and does not want to play neutral site games. Mathews said that UT is looking for some quality opponents who will get into a home and away series, but we are likely looking at a 3 home and home and 1 home and away series with regards to out-of-conference scheduling. When we get more competitive, we are likely going to a 2 home and away series with quality opponents and 2 home and home series.

Neyland Stadium Renovation - Primary emphasis is the revamping south end zone. The inner structure of the south end zone will be revamped. Premium seating (skyboxes, club seating) will be addressed shortly. Seating will decreased and UT will focus on bringing a more enjoyable experience to fans. (hinting that we will cut out some seats in order to build areas that are more comfortable and enjoyable for fans).

Alcohol - No decision yet. This is a University decision, not an AD decision.

Preparation - In-season - student-athletes can participate in their sport for up to 20 hours a week, with 3 of those being in the weight room. Out-of-season, student-athletes can only participate in their sport 8 hours a week. Most of that is supervised S&C workouts. Coaches can now have some contact with student-athletes in the off-season ( up to 2 hours a week). This is big for teaching new players and showing them how to do drills, learn about the knowledge that the players possess (feedback)and teach them via film work.

S&C - a year ago we had about 6-7 players in the trenches that were at or over 300 lbs and had the strength level of someone at 300 lbs . One year later (today), we have 23 offensive and defensive linemen that are over 300 lbs and have significantly increased their strength levels. We are a bigger and stronger team from this time a year ago. We are a significantly bigger, stronger, an older more experienced football team and a better-coached team.

Building the program - Pruitt is recruiting a different athlete than we have in the past. Pruitt isn recruiting bigger players at every position. He is wanting players who have the size to play immediately, rather than recruit a 250 OL and build him up to 300 lbs. He has been part of programs that recruit this way and believes that is what it takes to win big. He has a strong conviction on how to get there. Mathews believes that he will.

SEC East - The SEC East is improving. Georgia and Alabama are much better physically and more talented than we are at this point. Florida is going to be a better coached team than they have been in the past. Kentucky, Andy, Missouri, and SC are better programs. So are we and how much better remains to be seen.
