Curious to hear everyone's opinion. Would UT trade places with any team right now in Akers' top 5 for a better chance to land him? If so, which team and why? If not, why?
I'm on record saying I'm not sure we would. OSU too cold and too far away. LSU still lacking an OC and Guice is a Heisman contender next year (won't be the guy right away like he would at UT). Ole Miss has not developed great RBs under Freeze, needs a coordinator, and has NCAA overhang pending while they missed a bowl this year (yes, their season was even worse than our's relative to expectations). FSU has another elite back coming in (and a couple on the roster behind Cook), but Akers does like Jimbo and has visited a lot. TN has Trey (who he likes the thought of playing with), Ty (who he seemingly likes the thought of having a 1-2 punch and they've shared some tweets), and a 'Sip boy as his lead recruiter and RB coach who by all accounts is doing as good a job as anyone recruiting him. Just don't think Akers can come out and rule out Ole Miss as an in-state kid until the deed is done (no need for all the push-back locally).
For fun, I'll go with the following odds right now: UT 35%, FSU 25%, LSU 22.5%, OSU 12.5%, Ole Miss 5%
