This Thursday has kicked off with a bang.
Not only is it game day on Rocky Top, but it’s also the first day that college coaches are reaching out to prospects in the 2024 class.
With that in mind, we’re starting a thread of guys who have been contacted, what these players are hearing, and anything else we can glean in regard to their excitement for their recruitments and the season as a whole.
First up is Jaylen Thompson, a four-star cornerback out of Riverdale High School in Murfreesboro.
Tennessee defensive backs coach Willie Martinez reached out to Thompson via DM at 12:01 a.m. this morning, letting him know that it’s “his time” and “all eyes” are on him.
Thompson was wide awake and ready to see what came through, adding that he “was ready too!”
It’s worth noting that Thompson is teammates with 2023 Tennessee OLB commit Caleb Herring, younger brother of Vols LB Elijah Herring.
Thompson told me the younger Herring has been on him constantly about joining forces at UT, going so far as to switch lockers during the week to remind Thompson of what they could do together.
(More on this and Thompson’s background to come in a story soon.)
Keep following this thread for updates throughout the day. As we receive more info and player feedback, we’ll post it here.
