Dont want to steal BRAJP's thunder here, doing my best eli impersonation. Slow day at work...
Making progress. Some days are better than others.
We could have 8-10 return from the injury list for Saturday am practice. Resiliancy is born during times like this. For the most part the team is responding well and getting better.
Playmakers on O today v/s day 1? Night and day difference. Biggest difference is at RB. Getting Wolf back at practice will add a playmaker to the offense.
Passing game from last nights scrimmage? Need to get better. Rythem, spacing, and timing. It is a complex thing. It takes all 11 to have success and the throw game is a work in process. Not game ready yet. Last night was a situational scrimmage so the passing game was not opened up as much as it will be going forward. Medley had a great night kicking the ball. Made a few 50+ yarders. Punters have looked good and are becoming more consistent.
Offensive changes? Not much. Doing some different things with 3 TE sets, 5 WR sets, but it wont be any drastic differences.
Run game, where is it? Not game ready. Work in progress like everything else. Picking up stunts, twists, pressures. Jalen and Alvin compliment one another and are doing a great job at tutoring the young guys. Ball security has been good. Little nuances like back side blocking have to improve. The OL is making progress and had a good couple of days.
Will not discuss which guys are returning from injury... Come to the open practice and find out.
Team Leadership? Needs to continue to evolve and improve. Defensive leadership starts with Maggitt but he cannot do it all. Need other leaders to step up. The grind of camp will challenge and reveal leadership. Opportunities cannot be wasted and leadership cannot allow them to be wasted. Kamara is becoming the voice of the offense.
OL, focusing on one position or cross training guys? We need to cross train to build depth. Younger guys we have them playing one position to hone in on a skill set. Need to find the best 5, but the best 6, 7, 8. Jack Jones is sticking out. Moving Kendrick around to find where he can help the most.
After last nights scrimmage there were position groups immediately watching film. Shows leadership.
Jakob at TE? He will stay at TE. He has done good to have not played the positon. He has good balance, leverage, explosiveness, and is willing. He has no bad habbits because he has never played here.
How important is the mid-state to recruiting? Paramount. All the players from last years class have changed our team. Barnett, Malone, Gaulden, Robertson, Hurd, Medley and the list goes on. When you are from Tennessee and you represent Tennessee that is truly a legacy. VFL means something.
Managing players sleep? It is digitally tracked. 25 or so players have a sleep coach. Aids in recovery. Educate players and provide them the means to rest and recover appropriately. Will expant to more players if results are tangible.
Dormandy playing early to build depth? Yes he will. Cannot have enough depth at QB. Dormandy is the #2. Jones has done well and has to be ready.
Chemistry in the DL is great. Support and feed off one another. Youngers are learning from Barnett and Maggitt. Young guys see work ethic. It has been big for Phillips, Shy, and KM. It shows progress in the young guys. Mixon has done well as well.
