I think a lot of the problem lies here too.
Coach Pruitt is a pro-style guy who wants a heavier, stronger, more physical OL. Butch was a spread guy who liked a smaller, more mobile OL.
Coach Pruitt runs a 3-4 defense that doesn't have the right pieces yet that were left over from Butch's 4-3 system.
Combine this with the injuries we have to key personnel like Emmit Gooden, a lack of speed and experience in certain areas, and a lack of depth in others, you have to realize it's going to take time, quite a bit of time, to right the ship.
The defenses at Alabama, Florida State, and Georgia did nothing but get better each year under Coach Pruitt. UGA's defense was vastly improved over time. It's a matter of the inexperienced youngsters on our team learning how to play in the system, getting faster players in key areas, and ridding the roster of players who are lazy and don't care but you have to have right now for depth.
There's probably a small segment of posters on Volquest from other fan bases who spew negativity to add gasoline to the fire. Others are Vol fans who like to stir the pot. Some are miserable who you have to wonder how they get out of bed every morning. You have to think in today's Internet age how much damage you're doing. Everything you share on the Internet can be seen by the the world including potential recruits. Coach Pruitt and his staff of assistants are the faces of our university and the state many of us are from. We need to back all of them and at the very least give them past the time when EVERY SINGLE PLAYER ON THE ROSTER is someone they recruited, signed, coached and developed all 4 years (excluding transfers of course). Stop with the "Phil made the wrong hire", "Pruitt isn't the man for the job", "I'm done" bullshit. It's as bad as reading the first paragraph of a book, watching the first 15 minutes of a movie and claiming both are trash. Let it play out.
We will all know in due time if Coach Pruitt is the man for the job. The 2 upset wins last year were great signs in my opinion. On the other hand, nobody liked losing to Georgia State. It's done though, and it's time to move on. In the meantime, the jury is still 100% out.
